Let's Move Seattle - help our kids to get healthy

Here in Seattle, health indicators give us a clear picture of alarmingly high obesity rates, with unacceptable disparities based on income and race.  For example, according to the Washington State Healthy Youth Survey, 22.9% of Seattle youths in grades 8, 10 and 12 are overweight including 32.3% of Hispanic/Latino youth and 31.8% of African American youth.

As a community, we can work together to understand and address these inequities and improve the health of all children.

Our Mayor, Mike McGinn,  has signed onto the First Lady’s Let’s Move! Campaign to end childhood obesity rates within a generation.

The Mayor’s Office is teaming up with Public Health-Seattle King County to launch a grassroots public education campaign on the causes of childhood obesity and what we can do to combat this epidemic by working to increase healthy eating and active living in our City.

There are a lot of organizations and individuals to reach out to across the city and we need your help!  Please join us at our first volunteer Speakers Bureau training on Tuesday, January 11th at 5:30pm in the Seattle City Hall (600 4th Ave, 98104).
